Red is fabulous!

While this was taken about 4 years ago (in a car we owned at the time), there is no denying that my fingernails (and toe nails) were meant to be painted red!

Pretty, aren’t they?

I hope I get to try it again soon! (Perhaps with the 1″ extensions my nail tech has talked about? “So elegent, Ma’am!)

It’s nice when this occurs…

I was out shopping yesterday, wearing black capris over bare legs, gray blouse, and with my usual feminine attributes, including white toe nails on display in sandals. Wifey needed some things (including a prescription and some feminine products) at the store – she was busy with the granddaughter so it was my job to pick them up. And she handed me her credit card.

After the store clerk’s usual greeting of “Welcome to ___________, Ma’am” and my “Thanks, Miss” response, I grabbed a cart and began my shopping. It took about 10 minutes to round everything up and get into the long line at the checkout counter.

Management finally sent another clerk (20-something female) to help with the checkout line, and since I was next, she said “I’ll help you over here at this register, Ma’am.” She asked me to put my card in the machine, and commented about my pretty finger and toe nails. Then as she was ringing up the feminine products, she asked “Did you find everything you need, Miss (insert wife’s first name here – from her card)?” “Sure did – thanks Miss!”

After everything was finished, and I was picking up my bag of purchases, she said the usual “Thanks for shopping with us, Miss (insert wife’s name here.) “You’re welcome, hon!” I mentioned it to Wifey later that day, and she simply said “You look like a girl, so you get treated like one.”

And that’s fine by me, though I didn’t say it out loud…

A shocking first…

Never before…in over 50 years of driving. And “it” occurred when out and about three days ago.

Wifey, grown son and I were out running some errands, and decided to go to a drive-through restaurant for lunch. We’d have sat outside in the shade, except they had closed both their dining area and outdoor eating area because of the coronavirus issue. Thus, my presentation had nothing to do with what followed, other than (possibly) my long hair. In fact, all 3 of us have long hair, and without being up close, could all be interpreted as female.

The driver of the car in line in front of us placed their order at the voice kiosk in line, and eventually moved up to a window. Once they cleared the kiosk, we placed our order, and followed them as they moved ahead. I noticed that they got their order, paid for it, then had another exchange of money after they received their order. But I didn’t think anything of it.

When we pulled up to the window, the clerk handed us our order. Then came the bombshell: “You don’t owe anything, Ma’am…the lady in the car ahead of you paid your bill. Have a nice day.” “OMG, thanks to you and God Bless the lady. I hope you and she have a blessed day. And one of these days, we promise to pay this good deed forward!” “It’s a first for me, too!”

Our lunch was good, and indeed extra special. This is a public thanks to that lady, whomever (and wherever) she may be!

Definitely a short (for me) dress…

As you might guess,  this dress hasn’t seen the light of day since I got it to wear while sunning my legs back in Maryland.  Wifey doesn’t like it – way too short.   But it’s very comfortable, and perfect for hot weather.  No wonder a lot of women wear skirts and dresses in the summer down here in the south!

If I take any solo excursions next year (this summer was a bust, due to the pandemic), it would be fun to spend at least part of the time sightseeing in this outfit. It’s so comfortable! (And maybe my legs would finally get some sun!)

So what do you girls think: when an opportunity presents itself, if I take it along on a solo hot-weather trip next year, would it be appropriate for me to wear, given my less-than-optimal figure?

Thanks for any input you provide!

Certainly not an everyday item:

It’s only the fourth time I’ve been able to wear my flats since we moved in early spring. But today was special:

…it was the day of one of my “new doctor” consultation appointments, and Wifey said that I should try my flats again, as I had a nail appointment upcoming in a few days, in case closed shoes caused a recurrence of any toe nail issues. So, for only the 4th time in “recent history,” I’d be wearing ballet flats. Definitely a rare treat! (Too bad she wasn’t receptive to my wearing one of my long dresses like the above!)

Back when I started wearing feminine sandals full time, I initially disliked the womanly “flip-flopping” sounds I can’t avoid making as I walk. However, now that they’re my everyday footwear, I’ve come to love the attention: you can’t beat them for announcing to the world that a woman is approaching! Without a doubt, those flats came off immediately after my return home from the appointment! Wifey didn’t even have to remind me to change: on went my sandals. And those flats immediately went back into their “hiding” place – with no certain date for an encore.

That’s fine with me…I certainly have enough sandals to wear – for almost any occasion. The only sandals I’d love to add to my wardrobe are a couple pairs of dressy (translation strappy and sexy) 2″ or 3″ heels, to go with the women’s business suit we bought years ago, for “weddings and funerals.” To quote lyrics from that song by a Western artist years ago, I’m so happy to be “back in the sandals (not saddle) again!”

Time will tell!

Another One From The Archives…

I got this top as a hand-me-down from Mom, and though this was taken a while ago, I’ve  gotten at least some use out of it!  (And I hope to wear it more often once I get the excursions going again…next year!)

Mandy Out Shopping – in the Women’s Department, of course!

Looking like this, where else could I shop?  I checked out skirts, dresses and blouses.  Though I didn’t try anything on, I would have liked to!

Shorts in the summertime…

These shorts have been this past summer’s favorite, and I suspect some of my most masculine, bottoms (perhaps “least feminine” would be more appropriate?) All of my shorts are women’s, with the same 3″ inseam. Could have gone with 2″, but I don’t think I’d want to wear them any shorter – in certain positions, folks could get a glimpse of my underwear if they happen to be so inclined.

Short shorts?

These shorts work well with this blouse (my most blatantly feminine hand-me-down blouse – I’ve purchased others which are much less outstanding), with feminine sandals (instead of the MJ’s shown), and 10 white toe nails – now on full-time display. Plus epilated-smooth legs and arms, long pink fingernails, purse and long hair. And I wear a mask (yes, still – particularly in crowded areas).

Being a girl is a lot of fun…particularly the girl talk that often comes with it!

A comfortable spring/fall outfit

Skirts with turtleneck tunics are always in style. While I wouldn’t be able to wear this around the house, it certainly would be a candidate for a spring or fall “excursion” – none of which have happened for a while, due to the ongoing pandemic and now, the move.

I just need to find a nice pair of sandals to replace the ones in this picture. They’re so comfortable, but are rapidly wearing out. Unfortunately, they won’t last more than a few additional outings…

Girl talk…

I was picking up a prescription at the pharmacy the other day, and the 30something female clerk began talking about my pink fingernails and “pretty white toe nails.” She had noticed that they’ve been done nicely each time I’ve been in, and that I seem to love wearing sandals.

I didn’t share the “why” of my toe nails being done, or “why” I wear sandals…however she wanted to chat a bit as I was the only customer. She said that since I’m new to the area, and love sandals, the climate in TN is agreeable enough that I should be able to wear them with leggings well into the fall, and even into winter. “And don’t forget: high-heel sandals are fabulous all year around. They’ll look great with dresses and skirt outfits!” Of course I agreed, but silently lamented to myself: “Only in my dreams…”

Then she commented on my pink fingernails…and how pretty they are. “Those fingernails would be perfect for me…clearly manicured but not extreme. Where do you have them done?” We talked about the salon for a few minutes and I gave her my tech’s name. She plans to go there, and give my name as a reference! That’s always good for the stylist.

She confided that “your hands would look so elegant if you add nail extensions to your nails, making them at the very least, an inch beyond your fingertips.” I told her that I’d love to, and my stylist is trying to convince me to go ahead with it. But with so much housework to do, it would take too many adjustments. And then I chuckled “these are already acrylic nails. My stylist has simply stopped removing the new growth each manicure…and they’re growing out. Eventually I’ll have longer nails – through nobody’s fault but my own!”

Then I asked the clerk why she doesn’t have extensions. She’s worn them a few times, but mostly on vacations. But since she works, handling boxes and so on, they’d break all the time. “So vacations may be how you can wear them – at least for a little while!”

And one day soon, I really hope to be able to try it!

Mandy

Amazing…

Wifey and I were relaxing in front of the telly after dinner a couple nights ago, and she had turned to a home shopping channel. I looked up to see a warm-looking turtleneck midi-dress on sale, and commented that getting some like that might replace several of my sleeveless dresses which have too-short old turtleneck blouses underneath. Her comment was that “it’d look nice on you – and it’s long enough, but I don’t think it’ll fit – it’s tapered at the waist, and you don’t have curves there.

My response was that I’d check the size chart and measure myself, to be sure. She was OK with that. I did, gave her the measurements, and as usual, she was correct. I told her that I’d keep looking…and she was fine with conceivably making that change. “If you find some of them, we’ll keep two or three of your best sleeveless housedresses for you to wear without the top underneath, around here but possibly even when you’re out and about next summer. But we can get rid of the rest, as well as those poorly-fitting turtlenecks you wear underneath them. That’ll cut down the number of pieces I have to wash!”

Perhaps a little progress is being made?
